Google Base Expiration Date – Feed Errors – ISO 8601 vs. English

When SingleFeed sends out your data feeds to Google Base (Google Product Search), we send the expiration date in the required ISO 8601 format. In other words, May 30, 2007 becomes 2007-05-30. However, we’ve noticed that when merchants download their SingleFeed, through the wonders of Excel, sometimes the ISO 8601 format is changed back to the English format so when you re-upload, the SingleFeed correction wizard flags the expiration date field as an error.

For those of you uploading a completely new feed, there is no issue. You do not have to include the expiration date as we automatically set it for 30 days from the date of upload.

For those of you who are downloading your SingleFeed and then re-uploading, while we work on taking care of this Excel kink, just delete the 2 Google Base Expiration Date fields before you re-upload. We’ll automatically add the expiration date field back in when we send the feed to Google Base. Of course, you can also select all the dates, right click, click on Format Cells, select Date, then under ‘Locale (Location)’, choose ‘International (ISO)’…but selecting 2 columns and deleting seems a bit easier.
