Promotional Message Field   October 18th, 2007

First and foremost: Hello! As many of you know, I am the newest member of the SingleFeed team. I’m looking forward to working with all of our clients and helping each and every one of you succeed on the shopping engines! Speaking of succeeding on the shopping engines: enough with the introductions, check out my post on our data feed optimization blog on the topic of promotional messages. Singlefeed is interested in your feedback on how this field performs for you, if it makes a difference, if you’ve never tried it but would like to, and how we can improve our support for it.

SingleFeed struggled with how to support the promotional message field because some engines only accept a predetermined list of values and others accept any custom string of text. To make it easy, we decided to support a set list of the most used values and you can include those in the “promotional message” field of your singlefeed. However, we would like our merchants to be able to take advantage of the engines that support any, custom text. How important is this functionality to you?

We look forward to your feedback. In the meantime, below is the list of values that we currently support in the singlefeed promotional message column… try them out if you aren’t already!

Thanks for the post Colin and bienvenidos a Singlefeed.

It would be really helpful to know where each of the engines actually use this information. Where do each of the SCE’s actually display this field?

I think the set list is an adequate workaround but it would be nice to be able to put an expiration wherever possible to create a sense of urgency. For example, “Free Shipping, Offer Ends 10-20-2007″. Could you possibly include two columns, one for “Defined List Promo” and one for “Free Text Promo”

Sorry, that last comment was a little unclear. Essentially, it would be great to enable merchants with the flexibility for both. One possible solution would be to include two promo columns in Singlefeed. The first column would contain a promo offer, as defined in a predetermined list of promo messages. The information in this column would be sent to all of the engines who require a predefined message. Additionally, text included in the first promo column could automatically override a blank cell if the second promo column was not filled in.

However, the feed could also contain a spot for a custom message. If a merchant were to include a free text promo in the second promo column, it would syndicate to SCE’s who allow a custom message.

Make sense?
